Our Proprietary Red wine demonstrates heights achieved by artful crafting. This single vineyard, Estate grown Proprietary Red, produced in limited quantities of 400 to 800 cases, is a wine of striking complexity, beautifully polished with substantial structure. The wine’s depth and fine tannins reflect the attributes of our spectacular site.  Build to last, this Bordeaux blend is aged up to 21 months in Taransaud new French oak barrels to heighten complexity and deepen aromas.  Over its releases, our Roy Estate Proprietary Red has reaped raving reviews from renowned wine critics and experts.

The 2013 Roy Estate Proprietary Red is not a shy wine! This dark violet beauty explodes from the glass with loads of velvety chocolate, wild cherry, plum, leather, licorice and clove. Exciting the palate are endless full-bodied layers of complexity and lush mouthfeel with notes of blackberries, exotic spices and crème de cassis. The wine has great concentration with rich, but smooth tannins and well integrated French oak. Truly another perfect expression of this special, unique estate. It’s drinking beautifully now with its purity and youthful freshness, but will age gracefully for 20 years or more.

This opulent 2012 Proprietary Red immediately seduces the senses with a smoky, dark cherry impression that opens to reveal intense, ripe boysenberry, mixed wild berry and plum aromas. It delivers on many different levels, a true expression of both the vintage and Roy Estate. On the palate, masculine notes of black pepper, flint, dark chocolate and black tea are combined with an alluring hint of clove and French oak derived vanilla characteristics harmoniously bringing great richness, texture and depth. The finish is lengthy with fine tannins and a beautifully polished texture.

The Roy Estate vineyard produced two solid wines in 2011. From a very difficult and challenging winemaking vintage the extremely low yields produced Roy’s signature aromatics with purity of flavor, depth, and finesse. This wine fills the glass with dense rich fruit aromas of raspberries, dark blackberries, rose petal, chocolate, sage, mint and anise. Bright notes of French vanilla, mocha and caramel explode from the glass, adding many levels of complexity to the intriguing fruit aromas. It exhibits those approachable soft rounded tannins with a silky integration of great layers, richness and depth with that wonderful long, lingering finish. Another beautiful expression of Roy Estate.

The nose reveals finesse and extremely pretty aromatics of blueberry, wild berry, blackberry, mocha, espresso and violet. The mouthfeel has great focus, but in a very seductive style. Layered with creamy sweet exotic flavors, dark chocolate, sweet black cherry and flowers reminiscent of good acidity, this wine finishes with great length and sexy powerful tannins. The oak integration is spectacular, which is great sign for quality. The classic Roy Estate terroir truly expresses her voice as the wine opens and continues to evolve in the glass. The elegance of flavors melts into your palate with ripe fruit characters, earthy tones and freshness, followed by a pleasuring measure of finesse.

The extreme low yields in 2009 provided ripe grapes of huge concentration in flavors and structure. This Proprietary Red reveals deep red color and the intense aromatics are terrific like perfume with fresh cassis, cherry, blueberries and a hint of pepper. It delivers purity of flavor, richness and depth with finesse. Well rounded in the mouth, it exhibits plenty of vibrancy and charms with a wonderful bouquet of violet, fresh crushed rocks, blue and black fruits and exotic spices. Lingering on your palate with a very long, beautiful finish of fruits, it shows great promises for long aging ability.

From the estate, the very low yield of 2008 helped produce this remarkable, concentrated and sophisticated wine. Making wines since 2005, this site continues to amaze my palate by its finesse, purity of flavor, depth and European style. The powerful nose of rose petal, violet, sweet cherry, scorched earth and spices is extremely inviting. The mouthfeel is muscular and concentrated with layers of polished and fresh flavors of black and red cherry, black currant, forest scents, and chocolate finishing with refined tannins. This complex wine is beautiful now and will continue to engage and evolve.

Complex and harmonious, this amazing wine enthralls the palate with a seamless core of fruit and integrated tannins. Full-bodied elegance at its best, the Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2007 exudes a perfect balance of sweet tannins, vibrant acidity and a low level of alcohol.
